The 12,000-seat riverfront venue announces its first major act for June 2026 |
Grand Rapids, MI — The highly anticipated Acrisure Amphitheater has unveiled its inaugural performer: Grammy-nominated rapper MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, is set to take the stage on June 17, 2026.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for the 12,000-capacity riverfront venue, which is poised to become a central hub for entertainment in downtown Grand Rapids.
Construction of the $184 million amphitheater commenced in May 2024, with the project reaching a pivotal moment in March 2025 when the final steel beam was placed atop its expansive 60,000-square-foot canopy. This topping-off ceremony symbolized the halfway point in the construction timeline, underscoring the project's steady progress.
Located at 201 Market Ave. SW, the Acrisure Amphitheater is a cornerstone of a broader 31-acre riverfront redevelopment initiative. This ambitious plan aims to revitalize the area with 10 acres of green space, recreational facilities, retail outlets, and approximately 1,700 housing units catering to diverse income levels. The development is expected to inject over $800 million into the local economy over the next three decades, attracting more than 300,000 visitors annually.
In July 2025, the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority (CAA) expanded its partnership with Legends/ASM Global, appointing the company as the venue manager and hospitality operator for both the Acrisure Amphitheater and the forthcoming Amway Stadium. This agreement, effective from July 1, 2026, spans 15 years with a 10-year renewal option, reinforcing a collaboration that has successfully managed other prominent local venues.
Further enhancing the venue's prospects, the CAA secured a 25-year agreement with Live Nation in December 2024, designating the entertainment giant as the exclusive promoter for the amphitheater. This partnership is anticipated to attract a diverse array of high-profile artists and events, solidifying Grand Rapids' status as a premier destination for live entertainment.
MGK's upcoming performance is particularly noteworthy as it follows the release of his latest album, "Lost Americana", which debuted on August 8, 2025. The album, featuring a promotional trailer narrated by Bob Dylan, showcases MGK's exploration of classic Americana themes, marking a departure from his established rap and pop-punk roots. Critics have lauded the album as a modern take on heartland rock, drawing comparisons to legends like John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen.
As the Acrisure Amphitheater prepares to open its doors in May 2026, the community eagerly anticipates the diverse lineup of events and performances that will follow MGK's inaugural concert. This venue is set to become a cultural landmark, enriching the city's vibrant arts scene and providing a dynamic space for both residents and visitors to enjoy. |
